French Door Refrigerator With Ice Maker Review

French-door fridges combine functionality and form. They come with elegant double doors that open to reveal a large fridge on top and a freezer drawer below. These refrigerators stand out because of their unique features, including door-to-door dispensers and more expensive ice makers.

We asked Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the right one. They looked at the capacity of storage, layout, and energy efficiency, among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The name implies that GE's Profile series targets the consumer who wants to incorporate cutting-edge technologies in their kitchen. This fridge is loaded with them all from the Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. This refrigerator is costly and I was expecting better.

This fridge is a good choice, despite the blip. It has a large freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French door fridges. It also has a large capacity for frozen food, which is a big difference from other models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment has 18.5 cubic feet of space, which is roughly on par for an French door fridge costing this much. It also has a decent sized ice maker in the left-hand door, although it isn't the largest I've seen.

You can adjust the shelves in each compartment to create a customized storage layout for whatever you have to keep. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS also looks attractive. The LED lighting adds a nice feature. The bins for storage inside include a third shelf that can be folded down to store tall items. The drawers come with temperature controls so that you can set them for Beverage, Meat or Deli settings. They're easy to open and close, but I found their plastic textured coatings to be a little difficult on the fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator has all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator in this price range. This includes Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app is available on iOS and Android devices and lets you control your refrigerator from any place in the globe. It also has many options for customization. It also gives you notifications when doors are left open, when your fridge or freezer is in need of defrosting, and when it's time to change the filter.

It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill, an option available in a handful of other GE fridges that allows you to choose how many cups of water you'd like to dispense at once. It does offer a countdown on the fridge display to show how much water you have left, but it's not as effective as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The Bosch French-door Refrigerator is an impressive product. It's designed to appear like it's a seamless component of your kitchen. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also comes with a veggie compartment to keep fruits and vegetables fresher longer and dual compressors to ensure maximum food preservation. The ice maker is one of the most efficient we've ever tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of ice that is low in water usage. This fridge is the perfect option for a single family or kitchenettes who want an integrated look and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for several reasons. The freezer temperature remained steady at just above 0°F and never changed more than a fraction - this is essential to avoid freezer burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within an hour and maintaining the temperature constant over the course of our testing.

Bosch is a household name for its high-end appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that the Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. The app allows you to monitor and control your refrigerator remotely on your smartphone or tablet. The fridge is expensive, but it comes with top-quality features and functions for the cost.

It's important to understand the limitations of the fridge. It is possible to be inventive with tall items since the fridge is limited in shelf space. The shelves are also not resistant to spills and are easily damaged or stained by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they must be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage in an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge features an ordinary French door layout, with two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set of crisper drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give taller items more space. There's also a full-width drawer to store products from the deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the great aspects of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is in the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer frozen ice to the fridge for use when required. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you to organize the place of items. It also has a large container to store frozen food items, and a separate one for ice.

Another cool feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can manage the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your fridge using your smartphone. It's a great way to monitor and manage your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it doesn't improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact it took a bit longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator than other refrigerators we tested. This could be due to the bigger capacity.

The doors are another problem with this fridge. They have sunken handles at the front, which allows shorter people to easily pull them open from the bottom, however they're difficult for taller people to pull closed without slamming them. It would have been better to have front-mounted handles.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is an excellent choice for those who want to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with an efficient design. Its capacity is above average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also less expensive than the top counter depth refrigerator that comes with an ice maker, making it a great choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't cost you a fortune this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a simple fridge which may not be as attractive as its rivals, but it still has enough features to make a suitable choice. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer helps to keep food items like vegetables and meat fresher longer. It also comes with a huge water and ice maker dispenser.

The "Chill Drawer", which sits above the two crisper bins, is another great feature. This drawer allows you to redirect a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power into this area, so that you can keep food items which need extra attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to adjust the general cooling settings for the entire fridge, but I've noticed that adjusting the generic settings tends to be more effective than specific ones.

In my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator stayed fairly consistent across different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top, bottom and middle of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a solid performance but does not quite make it to the top of our ratings.

This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat in order to gain more precise information on the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge proof" finish. It repels fingerprints and streaks better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
